I bet this was just a little too close for comfort for Jake Gyllenhaal. Last night, the actor attended a ride-along with the LAPD to help further research his character for an upcoming cop flick End of Watch, which will hit theaters in 2013. The Love and Other Drugs actor was at a Summer Night Lights (a program that's supposed to reduce gang violence by keeping public parks open late and offering food and activities) anti-gang rally in South Los Angeles when the shooting occurred, leaving one wounded. Talk about a close encounter. Gyllenhaal and his costar, Michael Pena, were simply trying to do some real-life research for their roles by shadowing cops on patrol and then they end up in the middle of West Side Story.
The good news is that the victim is in stable condition with graze wounds to his lip and arm. Thankfully, Gyllenhaal and Pena were not injured and will live to fight crime another day.
