Updated: Reports are showing that the British singer will be laid to rest at a private funeral on Tuesday, July 26th. Winehouse is survived by her parents, Mitch and Janis, her older brother, Alex, and her boyfriend, director Reg Traviss. Her parents met with mourners outside their daughter's Camden Square home this morning saying, "I can't tell you what this means to us. It really is making this a lot easier for us...we're devastated and I'm speechless, but thanks for coming." Fans and well-wishers adorned the property with flowers, candles, vodka bottles, cigarettes, flags, wine glasses, drawings and handwritten cards.
Earlier: The internet exploded over the weekend when news broke out of Amy Winehouse's death. Celebs and fans are tweeting and speaking out about the tragedy and paying their respects for the well-known singer, but there's one big question on everyone's mind: what was the cause of death? We have our suspicions, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Reports are stating that Winehouse could have been dead for up to six hours before a security guard found her in bed around 4pm in London on Saturday.
The singer spoke to her security team around 10am that day before going to sleep, but wasn't checked on again until late in the afternoon. The fact that rigor mortis had occurred by the time the body was found suggests that she had been dead for several hours beforehand. Apparently the five-time Grammy winner had seen a doctor Friday night as part of a routine check up due to her continual battle with addiction, but the doctor didn't seem to find anything wrong. The cause of death will be determined pending a toxicology report which could take weeks to complete. The police are stating that there was no paraphernalia or sign of drugs in Winehouse's Camden home, which has turned into a memorial following the news of her death.
Do we all believe that the results will show that drugs were the cause of this singer's tragic death, yes. And we don't seem to be the only ones. Friend and PR rep, Chris Goodman, admitted that Winehouse had suffered setbacks in recent weeks in her battle against addiction stating, "She was on the mend but she lapsed over the past month...her death has come as a great shock. She was a fantastic talent and a sweet girl."
