Returning to soap operas seems to be the popular thing to do around here recently. First Josh Duhamel announced his return to the long-running soap All My Children, and now Sarah Michelle Gellar is officially set to make an appearance on the daytime show as well before it airs its final episode this September. Gellar starred as Kendall Hart Lang from 1993 to 1995, until going on to become an even bigger TV star, playing the lead role in the hit Buffy the Vampire Slayer. And as they say, the rest is history. She climbed up the ranks and hit movie star status with popular blockbusters including the horror flick I Know What You Did Last Summer and even went on to marry her co-star, the dreamy Freddie Prinze Jr. Not a bad success story. Even as her career dwindled throughout the years, she still remains a household name.
But now it's time to come full circle and return to the place that started it all. The actress confirmed the cameo while promoting her new CW show Ringer at the Television Critics Association conference in L.A. where Gellar announced, "I can officially confirm that I will be doing a guest spot on All My Children...When I heard that the show was canceled, I didn't understand. It just doesn't make any sense to me. So I called [the casting director]...and said I wanted to do something." Don't expect the soap veteran to reprise her role as Kendall though, which is now played by Alicia Minshew. Gellar commented that, "I don't want to be Kendall, that's Alica's role...I just wanted to be a part of it. I have no idea what I'm going to do, so we can take suggestions, but I will be doing it one day. I'm excited!" Looks like it's going to be a pretty star-studded set over the next month. The show hasn't seen this many stars in -- well, ever. At least they'll go out with a bang.
