It's amazing how much sway celebrities have over the general public. There are many people who will listen to Hollywood stars rather than political figures; it's crazy. So it's nice to see when the actors, actresses, and musical artists put their persuasive power to good use. A ton of celebs are using the power of social networking to draw attention to a very worthy cause. Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Britney Spears, and Beyonce (just to name a few) are among the over 150 famous faces who are taking part in the "I'm Gonna Be Your Friend" campaign that launched today.
The goal of this campaign is to raise money and awareness on behalf of the Save the Children's efforts to help provide the more than 10 million people in East Africa with food, water and medicine. The celebs involved have promised to promote a short film about the crisis on their widely viewed Facebook and Twitter accounts in hopes of encouraging their dedicated fans to donate to the cause. The film is directed by Kevin McDonald and set to the tune of Bob Marley and the Wailers' High Tide or Low Tide song. Both the video below and the song that accompanies it can be downloaded through iTunes, from www.imgonnabeyourfriend.org or www.facebook.com/bobmarley with all proceeds going to Save the Children. Follow your favorite celebs examples and do what you can to help!
