It always freaks me out when accidents or scary events happen to celebrities. I like to think of them as constantly having a protective bubble around them which age and injury can not penetrate, so they can go on entertaining the world forever. But they are in fact human and have to deal with the five natural elements: earth, wood, metal, water, and fire. Speaking of which, things got a little heated for Kate Winslet over the weekend -- literally. The actress was one of nearly 20 people staying at British billionaire Sir Richard Branson's private home on Necker Island, when it caught fire late Sunday night. Fortunately our lovely Contagion star was able to exit the burning building unharmed, but the same can not be said for Branson's luxury home. The fire completely tore through the building, which is located in the British Virgin Islands (the same destination where Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo tied the knot just about one month ago).
Branson happened to be staying at another property 100 yards away with his wife and son, and attributed the fire to a lightening storm. He said the house was "completely destroyed" and the fire was still not completely put out on Monday. Although it's terrible that he's lost all of his possessions, not to mention a beautiful home, I'm just grateful Winslet can live to act another day. I do find it rather curious though that Branson was staying at a different property that night, completely out of range of danger. Interesting...how convenient. I hope I didn't just uncover something huge and am about to feel like I'm in a scene from The Pelican Brief. I doubt there's any sort of conspiracy going on here, but it has all the makings or a great action movie if you ask me. What do you say Kate, you in?
