Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva appeared in the Los Angeles County Superior Court today stating they have settled their financial child custody issues at long last. They've had bumps and bruises (literally) along the way to get to this point, but I'm glad these two were able to put their problems aside and think in the best interest of their daughter.
Here's the deal they came up with: Oksana will be allowed to live in Gibson's Sherman Oaks, Calif. house until their almost 2-year-old daughter, Lucia, turns 18. At that point, the home will be sold and proceeds will be put in a trust for Lucia. Gibson also agreed to pay Oksana $750,000 in three installments -- $250,000 after the releases have been signed, another $250,000 by September 2013 and a final installment by September, 2016. The ex-couple have also agreed to share joint legal and physical custody of Lucia. This all seems pretty fair and reasonable (which is rather surprising with these guys), but if either one is looking to make an extra buck from all their turmoil, they can think again. The judge warned them that if any publication regarding their chaotic relationship -- whether it's a book, hiring a ghost writer to pen a book (or make a movie, etc.) -- the settlement will be void. You have been warned.
Now Mel and Oksana can hopefully put this toxic mess of a relationship behind them and move on with their lives -- which is exactly what they plan on doing. Grigorieva's lawyer, Daniel Horowitz, told reporters, "Oksana and Mel were in love. In love for three years. Lucia was a planned child. Oksana settled today because it was the best interest of Lucia. Oksana will not be commenting. Instead she is going to concentrate on raising her daughter herself without nannies." Meanwhile, Mel will continue trying to restore his image since his career has taken a rather extensive beating (heh, gotta love karma). Here's hoping this is the end of the Mel-Oksana drama.
