Update: We should have known it was too good to be true. MTV has spoken with R-Patz's rep who denies that any album is currently in the works, stating, "The report is untrue. He is not working on an album right now." Although this makes me very sad, I'm going to choose to focus on the fact that she said right now -- as in it could happen eventually. I just want the vocal caress of Robert's voice to sing me to sleep every night. Is that too much to ask for? So sorry ladies, no album exists...yet.
Earlier: Rob Pattinson already has a firm grip on the eyes of young girls, and now Us Weekly is reporting he's looking to expand his reign and come into ownership of their ears, too. The magazine reports that two sources have indicated to them that the Twilight star is in the process of recording an album. One insider explained, "Rob has been kicking a few original songs around for a long time, but his schedule didn't allow it. Now he's got some weeks to get everything in line before going back to promoting Breaking Dawn." The second insider added, "Music is [Robert's] first love! He's tortured because he avoids it. When he's sitting around jamming in the studio, it's his favorite moment of life." They continued, "The album Rob will make will be guitar-based and drums, very organic-sounding, nothing pop. Like stripped-down Ray LaMontagne meets Van Morrison."
It turns out this story is more likely than unlikely, because Pattinson has already written a few songs that have made it out into the universe: the first was Never Think (which he co-wrote with his friend, Sam Bradley) and Let Me Sign, and both of them were featured on the Twilight soundtrack. But it still seems like we're a long way away from a full LP release, which the first source suggested by saying Robert is "studying on other instruments -- like the piano and horns" to prepare for the day when recording is to commence. All this sounds good and everything, but I just hope him politely asking his instruments to play notes for him it isn't too torturous of an endeavor for this sensitive Englishman!
