As we've all heard by now, Eddie Murphy has been given the highly coveted position of next year's Oscar host. It's a prestigious position and one that shouldn't be taken lightly, so being the nice guy that he is, Steve Martin posted some helpful hosting tips for Murphy in an open letter on his website. Since Steve has hosted the Oscars three times throughout the course of his career, you know he knows what he's talking about. So what sage advice did the host veteran give Mr. Murphy? Some highlights include, "Whatever you do, don't have a co-host. They're a big pain and they just end up breaking your SNL hosting record." Martin also suggested, "Start slimming down now. You looked kinda paunchy in NORBIT." But his best piece of advice came near the very end when he adds, "If you feel tired midway through, give Neil Patrick Harris a Red Bull and throw some sheet music at him." Please, please, please, listen to that advice! For more of Martin's words of wisdom, click here.
Murphy has yet to comment on Martin's public post, but let's hope he doesn't get offended since it's all in good fun. You've got to expect some host-to-host egging and plus it's Steve Martin! He's hilarious and impossible to hate. Everyone knows Eddie will do a great job as the Oscar host and let's be honest....after last year the bar really isn't set that high anyways.
