Martha stewart, alexis stewartApparently someone has some mommy issues. Alexis Stewart, Martha Stewart's daughter, has written a rather harsh memoir about what life was like growing up with Martha as a mother -- it appears to be a far cry from a happy childhood. The book, Whateverland: Learning to Live Here, comes out October 18th and kind of sounds like an angry reflection on her mother's terrible parenting skills. Alexis seems to have made a career out of ridiculing her mother and I don't mean that figuratively -- she co-hosted a television show called Whatever, Martha, where she would make fun of old Martha Stewart Living episodes and attempt to cook or create one of her mother's projects to see how difficult they actually were. Man, Freud would be having a field day with these two.

In the book, Alexis claims, "If I didn't do something perfectly, I had to do it again. I grew up with a glue gun pointed at my head." And Christmas wasn't even a happy time of year with a mother like Martha. Alexis laments, "She used to make me wrap my own presents. She would hand me things right before Christmas and say, 'Now wrap these but don't look inside.'" And probably the most shocking (and gross) revelation of them all were the domestic diva's bathroom hygiene habits. "[She] always peed with the door open. I remember saying, 'You know, now I have friends over! You can't do that anymore! It's gotta stop! My friends' parents don't do it! Give me a break here! I don’t feel like being embarrassed! It's exhausting! I'm a kid! Stop!'" That's gross, but I bet it was the best decorated bathroom on the block.

But even though Alexis is unloading some pent up frustration with her mother, she claims it's all water under the bridge and harbors no ill will towards mommy dearest. In fact, she even dedicated the tome to Martha. So Mama Stewart may not deserve a Mother of the Year award, but to be fair Alexis equally doesn't deserve a Daughter of the Year award. Perhaps they're more alike than she thought.
