Madonna to Perform at Superbowl Halftime Show

Oct 03, 2011 | 10:59am EDT

Although football fans have a ways to go before finding out which two teams will get their shot at the Superbowl XLVI Championship, there are a few details that we are already privy to, like who the musical talent will be. SB Nation has reported that the Queen of Pop herself, Madonna, will be performing at the Superbowl Halftime show this coming season, and the site claims several unnamed NFL sources have confirmed the news.

The NFL has a tradition of recruiting musical legends for their halftime shows, which means Madonna has been gifted with a highly coveted position on game day. It also happens to be the most watched football game of the entire year, so the audience viewership is monumental. Last year, the Black Eyed Peas performed at the halftime show, which was watched by over 111 million viewers (although their Tron-like performance is better off forgotten). Then, of course, there was the infamous "wardrobe malfunction," where Justin Timberlake exposed Janet Jackson's breast in 2004. The NFL has tried to prevent any other slip ups from happening by inviting tamer acts to perform, such as Tom Petty and Paul McCartney. So it will be very interesting to see what this not-so-tame Material Girl will bring to the playing field. But here's a piece of advice for the NFL halftime show coordinator -- do NOT, for any reason, place hydrangeas on the stage.
