Kim Kardashian isn't the only one speaking out against the rumors surrounding her short-lived marriage. Her mother, Kris Jenner, made an appearance on the Today show this morning to promote her new book and to address the public's harsh criticism of her daughter's relationship with Kris Humphries (many people believe that the marriage was simply a planned PR stunt to help increase Kim's media attention, but Mama Jenner insists that isn't the case). She said, "It makes me feel sad that some people are reacting that way. It certainly wasn't a sham, certainly wasn't for TV. We have enough going on on our show that we don't have to make things up. She felt that she was in love with him. It was an amazing time ... I had no idea there was a problem at the time. It saddens all of us." Yet they seem to be handling the whole ordeal rather well, what with all the interviews and blog posts concerning the split. It's also worth mentioning how convenient it was for Kim to make this announcement on a Monday morning, which pretty much guaranteed her a whole week's worth of headlines and cover stories. But right, her marriage wasn't just a showmance...I believe you...
Jenner also refutes the claims that E! bought the rights to the wedding for a reported $17.9 million, assuring the world that the rumor is completely false. "One of the rumors is that we sold the television rights for millions of dollars -- not true. We profited or she profited from the wedding? Absolutely false," said Jenner. She admits they did make a reasonable profit (between half a million and a million dollars) from selling the wedding photos to the press, but all that money went into paying for the wedding and Kim still had to pay for a great deal of it out of her own pocket.
According to Jenner, Kim is devastated that she ended up disappointing so many people with news of the divorce, stating, "She's sick about it. She had to come out and say look, 'I made a mistake and I feel terrible.'" But the family has no regrets about being so dominate in the public spotlight (shocking). Jenner is thankful for her time on television, saying, "This is what we do. We have people who have invested in our lives from day one, season one, and we enjoy what we do. I feel so blessed and grateful for the TV show.
As for what will happen to the engagement ring, Jenner said that's between Kim and Kris to decide. She did claim, however, that the ring is not even worth half the $2 million as it was previously reported to be, although she conveniently wasn't sure of the exact price. Regarding the wedding gifts, Jenner commented, "I know that Kim plans on making very generous contributions to a really deserving charity when she gets home and trying to make that right because she feels really bad about that." Plus, she'll be able to get a new, upgraded version of all the gifts at her next wedding, so might as well ditch the old stuff now. Those gifts were so 72 days ago.
