New 'John Carter' Poster Is a Big, Bold Splash of Red (Planet)

I've seen with my own eyes the rich world of otherworldly detail in store for us when Disney's John Carter hits theaters (and I can't say too much now, but it's something to be excited about for sure). That said, the posters and recent images that have come out of the movie leave me a bit baffled. This is an epic movie, filled with various aliens and production design (weapons, aircrafts, cities) unlike anything you've seen on screen. So where is it?

The latest poster for Andrew Stanton's (Finding Nemo, Wall-E) is explosive in its monochromatic design—but leaves much to the imagination. The film's aliens are more of a suggestion, hidden in shadow, while our Civil War solider hero John (Taylor Kitsch) is dwarfed by his own name. Fans of the original source material may conjure up notions of famed artist Frank Frazetta's beautifully detailed renditions of the novel's Martian scenes, but the posters for the movie are all about RED.

Don't get me wrong, I am pumped for John Carter, but for a world that's this expansive, we've only seen just a sliver of what it has to offer. Is this enough to make the movie a must-see in 2012?
