Elizabeth BanksThe future seems to have no intention of quelling Elizabeth Banks' onscreen omnipresence. In the summer of 2010, word sprouted that Banks would be taking on the lead role in a live-action film based on the Peter Pan character Tinkerbell. The film, still in the conception phase, has mentioned TV writer Marti Noxon to work on the script, with action-isto McG and Hairspray's Adam Shankman to produce.

According to Banks, the Tinkerbell movie would bear similarities to Elf, the 2003 Will Ferrell comedy. Tinkerbell will find herself ousted from Never Never Land and forced to assimilate into our world. Banks has expressed a great fondness for the Tinkerbell character, and an excitement over the opportunity to play her: "Tinkerbell is one of the greatest characters because she’s mischievous and snarky and fun and sexy and jealous and vengeful."

Although Banks has expressed a good deal of positivity about the quality of the project, she is still unsure it will ever come to be. "We’re in script stage and everybody is really excited and blah, blah, doesn’t mean anything. You might as well not even write it down because who knows, it might not even happen."

Considering both the prevalent trend of revisiting classic characters and the ever-growing popularity of Banks, I'd say that the studios would be wise to push for this Tinkerbell film to make its way into production. If it does justice to the character, showcases Banks' comic abilities, and is in any way as good as Ferrell's Elf, then it'll be a movie worth seeing.

Banks is also set to star in the upcoming Man on a Ledge, The Hunger Games and What to Expect When You're Expecting.
