'The Hunger Games', 'Bridesmaids' Top MTV Movie Award Nominations

ALTFine, so the MTV Movie Awards don't exactly have the same clout or gravitas as the other big award shows. The Oscars, the Golden Globes and the like strive to revere the (arguably) classiest and most culturally resonant pieces and critical darlings. The MTV Awards, on the other hand, have categories like Best On-Screen Dirtbag and reward films celebrated by a different demographic: Actual people. And young people, at that. (As Liz Lemon might cry, "Oh god, youths!")

The nominations for the 2012 MTV Movie Award nominations have been announced with The Hunger Games and Bridesmaids leading the pack with 8 nominations each, including Movie of the Year. Among the other nominees are fan favorites like Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, 21 Jump Street, The Help and 50/50.

While it's no surprise that hot newcomers such as Jennifer Lawrence and Liam Hemsworth (pictured) as well as big stars like Ryan Gosling (take that, Oscars!) and Jennifer Aniston earned nods, the biggest shocker is that the stars of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 and MTV Movie Awards perennials Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner were all but shut out of the top acting categories. (Rest easy, inevitably upset Twihards, Pattinson and Stewart are still up for Best Kiss.)

Check out the full list below and tell us which movies you think deserve the treasured golden popcorn statue in the comments section.
