Colin FarrellRemember when Colin Farrell was just that guy who'd get killed if he hung up that payphone? Well, now he's other things. Lots of 'em. He's drama, comedy, fantasy, sci-fi. And if the deal solidifies, he'll be Mary Poppins, too: Deadline reveals that Farrell is in talks to join the cast of Saving Mr. Banks, the story of how Walt Disney convinced Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers to turn her classic storybook into the classic movie.

Yeah, he's a little bit intense for the dancing penguins thing, but Farrell is a jack of all trades, and will doubtlessly bring nothing but good things to the project if he signs on. Not to mention the fact that he's in some pretty ideal company: already cast are Tom Hanks, playing Walt Disney himself, and Emma Thompson, as the writer at the center of the story.

Farrell will play Travers' father, which will probably require as good a makeup job as his Horrible Bosses character did. So the story goes, the character of Mr. Banks in the iconic story was based on Travers' father, Travers Robert Goff, a bank clerk and manager.
