Superman has never been the most interesting superhero, and for quite obvious reasons: he's too good. He can fly, is super strong, impervious to all dangers (yeah, yeah, Kryptonite, whatever), and doesn't exhibit too much of an ethical or moral struggle with what he does. Unlike the emotionally tormented Batman, the anxiety-ridden Spider-Man, and all of the psychological issues going on amongst the Avengers, Superman never seems too broken up about anything. He's pretty much perfect. Which makes him dull as all hell.
But he doesn't have to be. The developing Superman flick, Man of Steel, from director Zack Snyder (Watchmen) and producer Christopher Nolan, seems to imbue the Kryptonian character with way more depth than we've ever seen him handle before. The new trailers for the movie exhibit that there's a lot more of an emotional journey, far beyond saving Lois Lane from Lex Luthor or getting the breaking headlines to Perry White ASAP. Check out both trailers below, and let us know if you think this will be the movie that really gives Clark Kent some new depth.
