Basketball documentary Hoop Dreams, Christmas classic Miracle on 34th Street, Fast Times at Ridgemont High and footage of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake are among the 25 new entries into America's National Film Registry.

Every year the Library of Congress names a group of "significant movies" which they preserve in the National Film Registry.

As well as those named above, Librarian of Congress James Billington has also announced the induction of Buster Keaton film The Cameraman, Toy Story, The French Connection, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and Giant.

The 2005 selections bring the total number of films being preserved by the Library of Congress to 425. The registry was created by Congress in 1989.
