While The Twilight Saga is undoubtedly the first thing we think of when it comes to Robert Pattinson, this won't be the case forever, and the ambitious young actor seems intent on making that a certainty. Although he might be largely connoted with his character Edward Cullen for quite a while, he's busting out of the gate with as many different genres as humanly/vampirically possible. The latest: Western. Wait, no, that's not enough. Future Western!
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Pattinson is attached to star in The Rover, a Western set in the Australian desert in the future. The story involves two men: Eric, a loner who is robbed of all of his earthly possessions, and Rey, an injured gang member, seeking vengeance from the latter's gang. Guy Pearce is also reportedly in talks to star.
So, you fill in the bubbles of "Western" and "future" on Pattinson's Scantron of realms to cover; the actor has recently checked off "romance," "scandal," and "Europe," with Bel Ami, "animals" and "historical fiction" with Water for Elephants. The upcoming Cosmopolis will afford him "haircut," "urinating inside of limousines," and "giant rats." ... Yeah, that's going to be a nuts movie.
The Rover is written and directed by David Michôd (Animal Kingdom, Hesher).
