Movie icon Al Pacino has been announced as next year's recipient of the 35th American Film Institute's (AFI) Life Achievement Award.

Sir Howard Stringer, the chairman of the AFI Board of Trustees, made the announcement yesterday, confirming the award will be presented to Pacino at a gala tribute in Los Angeles on June 7.
