For those who’ve managed to subsist on only textual descriptions of the Evil Dead remake footage screened at New York Comic Con, the wait is over. The horrifying remake has hit the web with a full red band trailer, and it truly earns that description. (In fact, I’m wondering if the MPAA might be willing to implement a new color band just for this blood-curdling trailer.) A reimagining of Bruce Campbell’s 1981 thriller of the same name, director Fede Alvarez'sEvil Dead replaces Campbell’s beloved Ash with Mia (Jane Levy). When she and her friends head to a remote cabin in the woods, they find the Book of the Dead and something worse than hell breaks loose. The trailer teases Mia’s possession progression, from the early stages right up to the point where he find her looking like a zombie-demon hybrid, splitting her own tongue with a razor. There’s also a moment of what Levy described as “tree rape” when she spoke at NYCC. Can you handle the horrifying trailer without covering your eyes or closing the window? It’s okay if you can’t. This one’s for the true gore and horror lovers, all squeamish viewers may want to flee while they still can.
