It looks like not everyone got what they were asking for at Christmas.
Despite more than 34,000 people signing an online petition — in which they asked the Obama administration to build a Star Wars inspired Death Star as a way to add jobs and beef-up our national defense — their request has been denied.
Chief of the Science and Space Branch at the White House Office, Paul Shawcross, issued a statement with the reasons why this sort of spacestation "isn't on the horizon." The biggest drawback being the cost to construct this movie marvel: a whopping $850 quadrillion. And according to Shawcross, "we're working hard to reduce the deficit, not expand it."
He also notes that the Death Star — which can destroy a planet with a single beam — could be problematic as "the administration does not support blowing up planets." People of Mars, take note.
