An early Steve McQueen thriller is about to get a 21st century update. Adrien Brody, Jordana Brewster, and Akon have joined the cast of newly-formed production company Glacier Films's American Heist. It's a remake of the 1959 film The Great St. Louis Bank Robbery, starring McQueen.

Russian Director Sarik Andreasyan is making his U.S. debut with the film. American Heist is about two brothers who grow up in a life of crime. One of the brothers has gone clean, the other is just out of prison and looking to make a big, big score. Of course, he loops in his brother, and their bond is tested during the course of carrying out the heist.

This begs the question, though. What other Steve McQueen films should be remade? The Great Escape is pretty much perfect, but it could make for one rip-roaring 21st century actioner. Papillon could definitely stand an update. The Thomas Crown Affair has already been remade. And Bullitt seems pretty much unnecessary since we have the Fast & Furious films.

Check out the trailer for The Great St. Louis Bank Robbery below.
