Shailene Woodley Says Being Cut from ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Series ‘Was Not a Bad Thing’

Shailene Woodley doesn’t seem to be too torn up about her character Mary Jane Watson not appearing in next summer’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2. In fact, she even supports the decision. In an interview with Movies.com, Woodley explains why MJ’s scenes were cut.

“Mary Jane was in four scenes in the whole film, and it didn’t make sense,” Woodley said. “They’re introducing so many new characters; it really didn’t make sense to introduce such a vital character to the comic books in a movie that had so much else going on.”

The role of Mary Jane will be recast for 2016’s The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Narrowly missing out on the chance to star in a superhero film would be crushing for many a young starlet, but Woodley takes it in stride.

“It was not a bad thing. It’s always one of those things that people project on it to be a really negative situation, but it really wasn’t. I think it was a very smart decision on Sony’s behalf,” Woodley said.

It’s nice to see that she has a professional attitude about the situation. Besides, with her upcoming starring role in Divergent, we think she’ll be just fine.
