The first trailer for David O. Russell's American Hustle is here, and it features an excellent cast of actors paired with some horrible hairdos. But bad hair aside, Russell's follow-up to Silver Linings Playbook looks like it's going to bring both good times and bad.
The trailer, which is set to the sounds of Led Zeppelin's "Good Times Bad Times" (how the heck did they manage that?), teases a story based on the ABSCAM scandal from the late 1970s and early 1980s. The movie centers on Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), a con artist who's forced to work with the FBI, and his mistress and partner in crime, Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams). The FBI agent who recruits Rosenfeld, Richi DiMaso, is played by Bradley Cooper. Cooper is joined by his former costars Jennifer Lawrence (who plays Rosenfeld's wife) and Robert De Niro. But American Hustle is a far cry from Silver Linings Playbook.
Cooper hits a guy in the face with a telephone, Bale beats a woman's bottom like a pair of drums, suitcases of money are all over the place, everyone's having sex, and there's that one hilarious shot of Cooper with curlers in his hair.
American Hustle (and Bradley Cooper's curls) will be released in December.
