For months it has been rumored that Julianne Moore would join that cast of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay. While we desperately waited for news on casting, today, Lionsgate finally confirmed that Moore has signed on to play rebel President Alma Coin. Moore, a four time Oscar nominee, has been seen recently in films like The Kids Are Alright and Crazy, Stupid, Love. She will join a star-studded cast already brimming with awards-caliber names, including Jennifer Lawrence, Stanley Tucci, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Woody Harrelson. So, if you're hoping for an incredible movie adaption, it looks like the odds are in your favor!
Moore, who has previously played a presidential hopeful in HBO's Game Change, will now take on the role of Presient Coin, who leads Katniss and Co. in the rebellion against the corrupt Capitol. The Hunger Games franchise is based on Suzanne Collins' bestselling trilogy of novels that take place in the utopian world of Panem. Lawrence plays the main character of Katniss Everdeen who becomes the reluctant symbol of hope for the oppressed people of Panem. Mockingjay, which will be split in two parts, will feature Moore in both films.
The second film, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, will be released on Nov. 22. However, fans will have to wait until Nov. 21, 2014 to see Moore in Mockingjay: Part 1. Mockingjay: Part 2 will be released Nov. 20, 2015.
