The show, in which members of the public take on muscle-bound gladiators in a series of events, debuted in 1988 and has since appeared in more than 90 countries.
Creator Johnny Ferraro, who claims he first conceived the idea as a movie, is now fulfilling his ambition with the help of 300 producer Scott Mesnick.
Mesnick tells Variety, "I look forward to creating a compelling story that launches a whole new set of characters."
