Mike Lisbe and Nate Reger sold the project and wrote the original draft of the comedy. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story centers on a man who decides to go to space after he suspects that his longtime girlfriend, an astronaut, is cheating on him with another spacewalker.
Theroux, who alternates between acting and writing (his latest scripts were for Tropic Thunder and the upcoming Iron Man 2), could potentially direct Space Invaders.
Meanwhile, Theroux and Arnett are teaming up on the small screen early next year. Arnett has been confirmed for a guest shot on his wife Amy Poehler's NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation. Theroux will guest in the same episode, which marks the beginning of a recurring role. The two are playing possible suitors of Poehler's character, EW's Ausiello Files blog reports.
