The former James Bond actor teamed up with Meryl Streep and Colin Firth for the 2008 blockbuster, and movie producers were reportedly keen to cash in on its popularity with a second installment.
Last year Streep admitted she was doubtful that plans for a sequel would ever come to fruition, saying, "I heard that they were talking about it, but I am not sure it's real."

The movie grossed more than $573 million across the globe upon its release in 2008.
