The Karate Kid may have only been in theaters for a week, but there’s already a sequel in the works. According to Deadline News, Columbia Pictures has already started to meet with potential writers for the second film.
With The Karate Kid already on its way to becoming a hit, news of a sequel isn’t surprising. The film has already made nearly $56 million in its first weekend, surpassing its budget by $16 million.
No word yet if the film would feature the return of stars Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. Odds are that Chan will return for the role, but things aren't so certain with Smith. The young actor definitely doesn’t need the money, and might be afraid of getting typecast so early in his career. Maybe they can try getting Hillary Swank as a replacement again.
