There is something profoundly patriarchal about Fred Ward. What is it about the character actor that he only seems to play dads? He was cast as DJ Quall's father in Road Trip, David Spade's in Joe Dirt, Reese Witherspoon's in Sweet Home Alabama, and as a TV dad in Grey's Anatomy and United States of Tara. Now Ward has been cast as 'The Major,' the father of Danny McBride's in the upcoming action-comedy 30 Minutes of Less, continuing his unstoppable dad-streak. What can we say? The part-Cherokee actor, who has spent time as a boxer, an Alaskan lumberjack, and a member of the U.S. Air Force, was just born to be a manly dad.
30 Minutes or Less centers around two criminals (Danny McBride and Nick Swardson) and the junior-high history teacher (Aziz Ansari) and pizza deliveryman (Jesse Eisenberg) who they force to rob a bank. Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) is directing the film with Ben Stiller's production company, Red Hour Films.
Principal photography is set to begin late next month in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
