Aubrey PlazaJust try and give me one reason you don’t absolutely love Aubrey Plaza. I’m pretty sure the only way you could come up with something without lying is if you don’t know who she is. (And if that’s the case, you may need to reevaluate your priorities.) To clear things up for you, she rocks. Like, really rocks. You may have seen her as the refreshingly different love interest for Seth Rogen’s character in Funny People or as an extension of herself as the intern, April Ludgate, on NBC’s Parks and Recreation; and if you’re really obsessed, you may have seen some of her stand-up online, which also rocks.

Now, Plaza is finally making the leap to leading lady in what I think is the most appropriate film for the occasion: a teen comedy called The Hand Job. The script comes from comic Maggie Carey (fun fact: she’s married to funny man Bill Hader) and is a semi-autobiographical story about a high-school grad who makes it her mission to gain more sexual experience before heading off to college. The film’s been touted as the female version of Superbad, and with Aubrey Plaza as the lead, I’m sure it will shoot straight to my list of favorite comedies.

Plaza’s attachment to the film was announced after a staged reading at the Austin Film Festival, but it’s not yet clear whether the actors that joined her (Jessica Alba, Colin Hanks, Bill Hader) will sign on for the project for good. Whoever comes on for this raunchy comedy will surely only add to what looks like a fantastic set-up and considering that Hader is Carey’s hubby, he’s probably a shoe-in for the cast (which only increases my excitement). It’s about time us girls have a comedy that’s a little more true to life than some glossy rom-com, and Plaza’s just the girl to give it to us.
