Coming Soon reports that Sally Field and Martin Sheen have been offered the roles of Aunt May and Uncle Ben in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, written by James Vanderbilt and to be directed by Marc Webb.
So, wow! Sometimes movies will announce their casting and all I can do is groan, but not this one. I can't think of two better actors who fit the mold of Aunt May and Uncle Ben better. Plus, if Field and Sheen accept the roles, they'll be joining an already-stellar cast featuring Andrew Garfield as Spidey, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacey, and Rhys Ifans as the villain.
There's not too many deets on the plot yet. All Columbia Pictures has said is that it will focus on "a teenager grappling with both contemporary human problems and amazing super-human crises." So, combine that with Gwen Stacey's presence in the film (Peter Parker's doomed love interest from the comic books) and we can assume that the reboot will focus on the early struggles of Spidey.
Right now, the reboot is looking to hit theaters on July 3, 2012.
