Tom Hardy As Hugo Strange In 'The Dark Knight Rises'?

ALT TEXTLet me preface this article with one big, giant, glaring note:

Okay, now that that's out of the way, the internet is currently buzzing with the news that Tom Hardy's role in Christopher Nolan's much-anticipated The Dark Knight Rises is none other than Dr. Hugo Strange -- a mad scientist.

If, and that's a big if, this is true, it does make sense as it fits in with Nolan's current storyline. In the comic books, Strange was brought in by Gotham's police force to figure out the identity of Batman. Which, as we all know (SPOILER ALERT), at the end of The Dark Knight, the whole city is on a tear looking for the Caped Crusader.

I'm liking this idea for Hardy as Strange, but I'm still pretty bummed out Nolan said they're avoiding The Riddler. Granted, he may have been a little too similar to The Joker for it to work successfully (and I guess Jim Carrey already destroyed), but damn, I'd love to see Hardy play some incredible mind games with Batman.

And although this rumor seems to be ruled out, I'd still like to see Hardy take on the role of Harvey Bullock -- the crooked detective who tries to take down Commissioner Gordon's career and The Dark Knight. He would've also fit nicely into Nolan's current storyline. But, here's the bottom line: Hardy is a fantastic actor and I'm just pumped up for whatever role he inhabits. Personally, I think this is all just speculation and Hardy doesn't even know the role he's going to play.
