According to Deadline, Charlize Theron is "hot and heavy" in negotiations to play the Evil Queen in Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman. At the same time, Relativity’s rival project, The Brothers Grimm: Snow White is wooing Julia Roberts as its Evil Queen. The Heat Vision blog, meanwhile, reports that four relative unknowns are in the running to play Snow White in Universal's take on the tale.
Per Deadline, Michael Fassbender is the frontrunner to play the woodsman in the Universal version for which Theron is being courted at the same time that she's reading the script for Clint Eastwood's Hoover biopic, J. Edgar.
That "Snow White" is from an Evan Daughtery spec script to be directed by Rupert Sanders.
According to Heat Vision, the studio initially thought of going with a name actresses like Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning or Saoirse Ronan. Now, it is said to be leaning towards a relative unknown and is screen testing in the next few days.
On the shortlist are Riley Keough (daughter of Lisa-Marie Presley) who made her film debut in The Runaways; Felicity Jones who plays Miranda in Julie Taymor's The Tempest; Bella Heathcoat, whose major credit is the Australian soap Neighbours and Alicia Vikander, a Swedish TV actress.
Sources caution HV that depending on the tests, the studio can still change its mind and head back to a bigger name.
The Relativity version will be directed by Tarsem Singh from a script by Melisa Wallack.
Both pictures are on the "fastest possible track," says Deadline.
