Universal's 'Ouija' Won't Spook You

OuijaWell this is disappointing. With a film centered around an object that gave me nightmares as a child, I sort of expected something a little more terrifying, but apparently the upcoming Universal project, Ouija won’t be scary. Seriously? That’s the only reason any of us used it; we all thought there were strange, spooky spirits pushing that little piece of plastic around the cardboard mat, spelling out names and answering questions (newsflash:  it was your pesky older brother or that bossy friend you had doing the pushing).

Not only will the film chuck the frightening element, but the writers (Tron Legacy’s Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz) are making some rather hefty claims about the script; they say, “It’s Indiana Jones – that kind of tone.” That’s a pretty tall order if you ask me. Indy’s kind of the bar you aspire to reach, so good luck dudes. On the other hand, the Indy series is what you should look to when trying to combine the supernatural and adventure genres, so maybe they’re on the right path after all.
