Well folks, after replacing Colin Farrell with Robert Pattinson earlier this month, the vicious dismembering of a potentially great film is complete. According to The Playlist, Keira Knightley is filling in for Marion Cotillard in David Cronenberg's upcoming film Cosmopolis. Oh, and even more sad news? Paul Giamatti -- who was rumored to play a stalker in the film -- is no longer part of the picture.
Based on Don DeLillo's book of the same name, the film follows billionaire Eric Packer (Pattinson) as he cheats on his wife (Knightley), is pursued by a stalker, gets attacked and slowly loses interest in being rich -- all taking place over a mere 24-hour period.
Don't get me wrong. Knightley is a fine actress and whether people want to admit it or not, Pattinson has a bright future outside of the vampire realm. The film will probably be alright. But seriously, is Knightley on the same level as Cotillard? No. Fucking. Way. Perhaps Cronenberg just wanted the film to skew younger, seeing as how Pattinson and Knightley are both young'uns that are only one year apart in age, but regardless, I can't help but see this as a missed opportunity.
