It looks like Russell Brand could land one of the leads opposite Alec Baldwin and Tom Cruise in the big screen adaptation of Rock of Ages. All three are still unconfirmed at this point, but there is serious talk of the trio officially signing on soon. Brand would play Lonnie, the nightclub owner who at one points sings Can’t Fight This Feeling by REO Speedwagon with Baldwin’s character. Helming the film is Adam Shankman, who directed Brand in Bedtime Stories (I know, I forgot he was in that, too). The boozing Brit is best known for portraying rockers here in the States in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek, featuring his hilarious Aldous Snow.
Having not seen the show, I’m not sure how well Brand would fit into role. People who have seen the show seem to see Lonnie more as a Jack Black type of character (which justifies the rumors we recently squashed that linked Seth Rogen to the part), but whatever. Brand is hilarious and I would love to see more of him rocking out. Baldwin and Cruise can be funny most of the time. Well, Baldwin is always funny. Cruise can be funny when he’s not taking himself seriously.
