Today, Robert Redford announced that he's taking the Sundance Film Festival across the pond.
The festival, which is the largest independent film festival in the world, takes place every year in Park City, Utah but is stretching itself beyond domestic borders to London, where the filmmaker and philanthropist plans to expand it intto a multi-disciplinary gathering featuring film screenings, live musical performances, discussions, panels and other public cultural programming. It will be held April 26-29, 2012 at one of the world's most popular venues, The O2.
"We are excited to partner with AEG Europe to bring a particular slice of American culture to life in the inspired setting of The O2, and in this city of such rich cultural history," said Redford. "It is our mutual goal to bring to the UK the very best in current American independent cinema, to introduce the artists responsible for it and in essence help build a picture of our country that is broadly reflective of the diversity of voices not always seen in our cultural exports."
So good news, everyone: Sundance just a whole lot cooler because let's face it, British accents will forever be much, much, much more awesome than our stupid American twang. Ain't that right, y'all?!
