Sam WorthingtonSam Worthington, noted Australian actor and box office champion, is set to appear in an Australian surfing movie called Drift. History shall remember Drift as the movie that gave the world the single greatest quote from a film executive:

"The unique combination of surfing and performance expertise gives Drift the potential to be the first character-driven action movie set in the surfing world since Kathryn Bigelow's Point Break."

YES. This amazing statement (and there is not a single iota of irony or sarcasm in my praise) comes from Fiona Cameron, head of Screen Australia, which is financing the film. If they have the wherewithal to attempt to make a movie as singularly awesome as Point Break then I say let them! I can’t think of a better goal than to make a movie as bodacious as that classic.

However, a warning word: you can not set out to make a Point Break-like film. It has to just happen. Don’t force it, let it be. Force it and you get something like Snakes on a Plane. Without force you get something like, well, Point Break. Like the waves, man, just ride them out dude. The world needs more surfing movies and Worthington is totally the bro that can ride the water pipes. Actually, he’s just the only bankable Australian action star they have, so that probably played a part. But that’s not very zen, bro.
