Update: Now, a report is now refuting the "insiders" that Variety sourced earlier this weekend. These new "sources close to the situation" claim that while Joseph Gordon-Levitt is definitely signed on for the Batman flick, he will not be taking on the Alberto Falcone role. With these conflicted reports, we're left with no other choice than to go back to our little battle of who's got the most Batman knowledge to determine who we think may be the next villain to find their name on The Dark Knight Rises' docket. Is anyone else getting tired of all this back and forth?
Earlier: We reported earlier that one of Christopher Nolan's favorites, Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in talks to nab a role in The Dark Knight Rises, and now it's official. We will see his handsome face in the final Nolan Batman flick, but it won't be all fun and games. Levitt is set to play Alberto Falcone, or the Holiday Killer. Alberto is the son of Carmine Falcone, who we saw in Batman Begins. It all makes pretty good sense; it will allow Nolan to tie all three films together and stay along the lines of the non-cartoonish villains that the director seems to prefer.
We can also look forward to the possibility of another familiar face joining the all-star cast. Okay, so she's not that familiar, but she's had her share of decent roles in the indie film world. Nolan is looking to add Juno Temple to the cast as a "street smart Gotham girl," which would be a great way for her to gain some more mainstream exposure and make for another talented addition to an already talent-heavy cast. No complaints there.
