David Gordon Green Promises A Remake Of ‘Suspiria’

David Gordon GreenI probably like David Gordon Green’s work more than I should. I can’t help it. Pineapple Exress was hilarious, his work on Eastbound and Down was phenomenal and Your Highness looks awesome. And he does smaller indie dramas? And he went to school in North Carolina? Dude, how could I not like him?

Anyway, he just went up another notch in my book (Sam’s Book of Notches - you can find it in the adult section) when he announced that his next film will *hopefully* be a remake of the Italian cult classic Suspiria. Sweetness. At one point during his original plans for the film, Natalie Portman was going to be cast, but she dropped out to do Black Swan. For those uninformed masses who haven’t seen Suspiria, it is a horror film, yes, but it takes place at a ballet academy, so it's easy to see why she backed out. That isn’t stopping Green, however, as his new plan is to go with all unknowns. European unknowns. Which sounds like a plan for a semester abroad, but whatever.

I’m down for this. Green has a great visual style and while comedy is a glorious genre that more people need in their life, it is limiting. Filmmakers need to stretch and try new things like the rest of us (except for Woody, he needs to stick with what he knows) so seeing a David Gordon Green horror film sounds awesome.
