His latest project will see him as a producer and possibly taking a role in the film itself. He's picked up When Corruption Was King, a movie about the mob that doesn't take place in Boston. Okay, seriously, does he know about this? Is he hoping it's The Departed's sequel? Okay, I'm just joking. I love me some Wahlberg (of the Mark variety, I've never been a Donnie fan). If his past producing projects are any indication, we'll likely see him show up in some capacity. He's a regular pest to Entourage's Vincent Chase and he's taken roles in Contraband, The Fighter, and We Own the Night -- all of which have him as a producer.
This time, I doubt he'll resist joining in as the story is based on criminal lawyer Robert Cooley's memoirs, When Corruption Was King: How I Helped The Mob Rule Chicago. If it's anything like it sounds, I'm looking forward to seeing what Wahlberg churns out. I like seeing him in these heartier roles. He doesn't always hit it out of the park, but it's always great to see actors trying to stretch and grow rather than taking the dime a dozen beefcake roles time and again (but to his credit, albeit superfical credit, Wahlberg is completely suited for those).
