Gavin HoodEvery once in a while, a film destined to spend eternity rotting away in that nightmarish place we in the industry like to call development hell will find salvation. Ender’s Game, Orson Scott Card's classic sci-fi novel that has been lingering throughout Hollywood for almost two decades, is one of those projects. Originally, Wolfgang Petersen was to helm its adaptation but that package has long since evaporated. Has it finally found its savior in X-Men Origins: Wolverine director Gavin Hood? Quite possibly.

Summit Entertainment, flush with cash thanks to great returns on its Twilight investment, is in talks to finance the adaptation with Hood directing the script he wrote. If you’re a fan of the book and are slightly (albeit justifiably) worried about the director of Wolverine handling your beloved story, fear not. The dude won an Oscar for Tsotsi. And I wouldn’t quite blame him for that 2009 mess; I’d be willing to bet the studio had something to do with it.

Anyway, yay! We might finally get a decent film out of Ender’s Game! Besides Hood, Star Trek super-producers Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman will also work on the flick. Honestly, this is probably the best set up we could hope to have for with Ender’s Game. Now on to speculating who should play Ender! My money is on Jeremy Renner.
