Saoirse Ronan has been cast in The Host, the upcoming adaptation of Stephanie Meyers' other book that's surprisingly not about vampires, but unsurprisingly about aliens. Yep.
Adapted by Andrew Niccol who may also direct, the story follows Melanie Stryder, one of the last humans fighting an alien race called Souls -- parasites that attack human bodies with the goal to fuse with their minds and erase their personalities. Stryder is captured by the aliens, but in a huge twist, her consciousness is too strong for them to handle. Ronan will play Stryder and the host, named Wanderer, who attempts to attack her.
Anyway, the role seems to be a perfect fit for Ronan, who's just coming off the successfully bad-ass Hanna. Plus, she was nominated for an Oscar at the age of 13 for Atonement, so, you know, she probably has quite the career ahead of her. The Host will undoubtedly make a ridiculous amount of money and give her the opportunity to do pretty much whatever the she wants. The next step? Nicknames like KStew or RPattz; so tell us Twi-hards, whaddya got? S-RON? Ron-Ron? Not KStew?
