Marvel Studios has long been developing a film based on its urban vigilante Luke Cage, and a handful of African American leading men have been interested in portraying the bare-knuckle bruiser, from Terrence Howard to Jamie Foxx to Tyrese Gibson to Idris Elba. The most interesting name thrown into the mix was Isaiah Mustafa, a.k.a. Old Spice Guy, who rose from obscurity to be known nationwide as the face of the product. Since then he's picked up roles in Madea's Big Happy Family and Horrible Bosses, but from the look of this self-made promo video the aspiring movie star REALLY wants to play Cage.
I can't even begin to count the ways in which this is wrong. Number one: It's too over-dramatic; that is, until Mustafa gets his hot, sticky love scene in there. Number two: He's playing the character like every other "dark, gritty" hero on the market these days, and Cage is a bit less wound up than that. And the glowing eyes definitely don't help either. I think I'll pass on Old Spice Guy, and after watching his promo video below I think you will too. Don't get me wrong, it's funny: in all the wrong ways.
