'Tron: Legacy' Sequel Hires New Writer

Tron Legacy posterDisney is still looking to make that Tron: Legacy sequel. They just tapped David DiGilio (Eight Below) to write it.

DiGilio is a graduate of the Disney writers program and will slide in where Tron: Legacy writers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis left a vacancy -- they're both busy working on ABC's new fall show, Once Upon a Time. But even with DiGilio slotted to carry the screenwriting burden, a sequel isn't a sure thing. While Legacy raked in $400 million worldwide, it cost about $150 million to make and $120 million to market, which means its profit wasn't quite as spectacular as it seems. It may not be feasible for Disney to foot the bill for a sequel, after all, but the jury's still out on that one.

The good news for Tron fans is that since the first film established a base of designs and technology, it's likely that the costs for a sequel would be much lower than the cost for Legacy. So, it would seem that DiGilio's latest job is good news for Tron fans with a small dose of reality. All we can say at this point is: prepare for the worst, hope for the best, Tron fans.
