Apparently, there are new Looney Tunes shorts playing before movies and I had no idea! It’s probably because they played before shlock like Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole and Yogi Bear, but now we will have three more and hopefully they’ll play before more deserving movies.
Well, the first one will at least. Daffy’s Rhapsody will play before Happy Feet 2 and feature Elmer Fudd chasing Daffy around the stage during a musical performance. The other two haven’t been assigned to a features yet, but they will be a Slyvester and Tweety Bird short called I Tawt I Taw a Puddy Tat and an untitled Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote short. These are among Warner Bros.' first steps to revitalize the Looney Tunes franchise, which include the new animated series which debuted in May on Cartoon Network and planned films featuring Bugs Bunny as well as one for almost every character up to and including the Acme Warehouse.
My only problem with these new shorts is that two of them will feature the voice work of Mel Blanc, the classic voice acting genius who pretty much defined every character and also happened to die in 1989. Granted, they’re using a song he recorded in character, but I still feel like they’re riding the coatails of a more talented ghost. Also, Daffy looks really weird fully textured. I don’t need to see Daffy with feathers any more than I need to see Bugs with fur. Just keep him solid black!
