The first full-length teaser trailer for Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows has just popped up online at iTunes trailers. The clip, which is scheduled to unspool in theaters this weekend ahead of showing of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2, is more style than substance, but in between the tanks, machine guns, mortars, and a cross-dressing Robert Downey Jr., there are hints at a storyline centering on Holmes's most famous nemesis, Moriarty. Or perhaps that's just a diversion. There could very well be no storyline at all.
All signs point to Game of Shadows continuing in the vein of its predecessor, 2009's Sherlock Holmes: Loads of action, plenty of witty repartee and latent homoeroticism between Downey Jr.* and co-star Jude Law, and minimal interruptions from those pesky females. Hey, why mess with a winning formula?
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is directed by Guy Ritchie. It opens December 16, 2011.

*Is it me, or does Downey Jr. resemble a young Christopher Hitchens in this trailer? It's probably me. And what's with the superfluous trailer introduction?
