'Lights Out's' Holt McCallany Joins 'The Gangster Squad'

Holt McCallanyI jump at every opportunity to report on The Gangster Squad. Even if they scored it with ABBA, filmed it in Rotoscope and had Carrot Top do intermittent sight gags between scenes, I'd be excited for this movie. And now, Holt McCallany is joining the cast.

Now, I'm not as familiar with the former Lights Out lead's work as I am with that of his The Gangster Squad costars, which include Sean Penn, Bryan Cranston, Josh Brolin, Ryan Gosling, Anthony Mackie, Michael Peña and Giovanni Ribisi. But obviously there's some trust to be instilled into the casting director's judgment. Thus, though the only role I really have to attach to McCallany's visage is his small part in Fight Club as "The Mechanic" who wished he had built a house before he died, I am going out on a limb in assuming that he's got some serious chops.

McCallany will be playing the bodyguard to Sean Penn's Mickey Cohen, meaning he'll presumably be enjoying a lot of screen time with the movie's biggest star. Pretty good deal you've got for yourself, McCallany. Pretty good deal...
