Peter Jackson is a grand wizard of filmmaking and has paid his respect to fans in years past by recording video messages or making appearances at San Diego Comic-Con. With his two-part Hobbit flicks in full-swing, his appearance at this year's Con was almost a given.

Almost.

Jackson delivered the sad news on his highly-active, personal Facebook page that he and his fantasy prequels would not be making the trek to San Diego this year:

"Good news and bad news today. Bad news is that we won't be doing any Hobbit presentation at Comic Con in San Diego this year. New Line and Warner Bros were very happy to support a presentation, but I declined, simply because I felt it was too early. There's so much more of the films still to shoot. I just wanted to get that out there, because I've seen various references to the possibility of something Hobbity at Comic Con. Hate to disappoint anyone. But something tells me we will be there in force next year."

What was the good news? A brand new video production diary, chock full of Martin Freeman's Bilbo Baggins, Andy Serkis' motion capture Gollum and all twelve dwarves in action. Even more exciting are the first reveals of a few original LOTR trilogy characters—but you'll have to watch the video to find out exactly who. If you're a buff of the movies (like myself), this particular video may send chills down your spine.

Watch the video below and scroll down a bit further to see Peter Jackson in all his dorky glory.
